Sean Loughran

I've been in LA for just over one month now and I've been spending a lot of my time at a secret candy haven, a room filled with delicious treats, exotic chocolates and international sweets. Well, it's not really a secret but I wish I could keep it a secret because it's just so good.

Ladies and Gentlemen I present to you, Dylan's Candy Bar.

Dylan's Candy Bar is the brainchild of Dylan Lauren. She's the stylish daughter of famed fashion designer Ralph Lauren. Dylan was inspired by one of my favourite books, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory and the brand is the merging of fashion, art and pop candy culture and it is now asserted to be the largest unique candy store in the world.

Why have I been spending so much time here? Well, that could be due to the fact that they stock more than 7,000 candies from around the world and it's also a really exciting and fun experience, my kind of shopping spree. A trip around the store at The Grove in West Hollywood is a pleasure with shoppers a plenty filling their little goodie bags with treats while candy related songs are blasted from the speakers. I get a little anxious as my eyes fill with the colours from the candy bins and I can't quite decide on my next move but it all works out in the end and I leave with a heaped, overflowing bag of deliciousness.

Dylan opened her first store in New York and this flagship is a must-see for New York tourists and a favourite of many celebrities including Madonna & the Olsen twins. The store has been a success since the initial launch in 2001 and Dylan's Candy Bar have now expanded to a whopping ten locations throughout the United States.

Dylan's Candy Bar brings back so many memories of my childhood. It's the layout of the store, the scents, the candies and the nostalgia. I usually spend a good 30 minutes stocking up on my favourites which consist of large sour gummy bears, jelly beans, peppermint drops and fried eggs. It's usually hard to stop at just that so I'll make a point of trying something new on every visit, the possibilities are endless! A visit to the delicious chocolate wall for a bar of Dylan's dark chocolate is always necessary.

Dylan is no stranger to collaborations and recently collaborated with major Japanese brand Sanrio by creating a limited edition collection to celebrate Hello Kitty's 40th Anniversary. Dylan's Candy Bar also recently announced a collaboration with world renowned sandal brand Havaianas. The capsule collection includes two styles of sandals playfully adorned with Dylan's Candy Bar's most well-known signature candies. Dylan Lauren commented "My brand's mission is to merge fashion, art and pop culture with candy and to make each step people take be sweet, I am most excited to be working with Havaianas to make this a reality".

With stores in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami and East Hampton it seems Dylan Lauren is on a role to bring a sweeter day to you. I can't wait to see the brand move to a more global level with stores internationally but for now I'm happy with my daily trips to the LA location.
