We have arrived to our final destination in Florida and no there’s better place to end the trip than Miami. I’ve always wanted to check out what’s on offer in Miami so I’m excited to finally be here! I have arranged to stay in the centre of Downtown Miami at the perfectly located Hyatt Regency Hotel. Having stayed at many Hyatt Hotels in the past, I know I can rely on this brand for a comfortable, luxurious and relaxing stay. The Hyatt Regency is located close to Brickell Avenue which is one of the most prestigious and exclusive neighbourhoods in Miami.
We arrive to the Hyatt Regency late on Monday afternoon after a 4 hour drive from Daytona Beach and to say I’m exhausted is an understatement. I get out of the car outside the hotel and stretch, stopping for a moment to breath in the hot Miami air. There’s a fresh breeze from the Miami River blowing in my direction.
The hotel is buzzing with guests arriving and departing, concierge and valet staff are on standby with trollies meeting the new arrivals and I notice that careful attention is paid to each and every guest of the hotel.
Accommodations at the Hyatt Regency include 612 guest rooms, 57 suites and the Regency Club. The concierge staff are on hand to answer all questions and offer an exceptional service. A heated, outdoor swimming pool is available along with a fitness suite and other sporting activities close by the hotel can be arranged. Restaurants on site include the Riverwalk Cafe & Deli and the Pure Verde Lounge, both eateries offer all day dining and Starbucks coffee is brewed here which is always a plus.
We check in without any problems, it’s a quick process and I leave the reception with a smile on my face as I have been upgraded to one of the hotel’s suites on the 6th floor - one of the perks of my Hyatt Gold Passport membership. I take the elevator up to my room, kick off my shoes and jump into the kingsize bed and with a quick flick of the remote I switch on the large flat screen television facing my direction. I fall asleep within minutes and although it’s rush hour outside and the hotel is located next to the highway, I don’t hear a peep!
Waking up a couple of hours later, I meet with my dad in the hotel lobby and we leave for a walk along the nearby riverside to watch the sunset. We sit on a bench, watching the world go by. From all angles, we spot dog walkers, runners and gym bunnies - Miami appears to be the fitness hub of the world. I should really be thinking about a trip to the gym now but instead I’m thinking about dinner so we walk around downtown and find a delicious Peruvian restaurant with quick service then we head back to the hotel for an early night.
I sleep like a baby and wake early the next morning to get ready for a Bikram yoga class at a studio nearby the hotel. Walking to the studio, I find myself surrounded by the skyscrapers and structures and I’m reminded of the Financial District in Downtown Manhattan. Finding the studio is not a problem, it’s located less than 10 minutes walking distance from the Hyatt Regency.
The Miami Bikram Brickell studio operates 7 days per week and offers 6 classes a day throughout the week and 4 classes on weekends. Classes are priced at $20 for drop ins and the studio offers great packages for those staying longer. Towels and mats are available for rent and shower facilities are onsite at the studio. I take a class with Cristina Arambarri which is fantastic, her teaching methods are super. The energy in the class is alive and pumping and I have a great workout, also enjoying the after effects of the Bikram series.
After yoga, I meet with my dad for a day trip to the Florida Keys. It’s been on my dad’s bucket list for a long time so I’m glad we can do it together and it is so worth it. We stop off at Key Largo and the view is spectacular. I’ve never seen anything so beautifully spaced out before, it's breathtaking.
I stop off at Whole Foods Market across from the Hyatt Regency when we arrive back to Miami and pick up some fresh sushi for dinner in my suite. The new Whole Foods grocery store has just opened here in Downtown Miami and is located less than one minute from the hotel which is perfect - the store in Miami is a scene, the dress code appears to be spandex and sneakers, hair done and makeup is applied to perfection, is this a grocery store or speed dating?
The next morning I make my way down to the Hyatt’s Riverwalk Cafe for breakfast. I power up for the day with strawberry, banana and brown sugar steel cut oatmeal and a freshly brewed pot of coffee while planning my schedule for the day. As it’s the last day here I decide to go shopping and I discover Bayside Mall which is approximately 10 minutes from the hotel. I spend the day strolling along the harbour at Bayside which is glorious, yachts are parked up on the side, boat tours are offered and the mall is alive with shoppers.
Returning to the hotel, I get ready for dinner at Miami’s hottest restaurant, Seaspice (more on that deliciousness later!). After dinner, I start to pack and reality hits that my trip has come to an end. It’s been a wonderful week in Florida, everything from Orlando to Northern Florida and all the way down here to Miami. My time at the Hyatt Regency in Miami has been a delight and for what the hotel is lacking in design they make up for in service. I notice that all members of staff are exceptionally trained and will always go above and beyond to ensure the happiness of the guest.
I’m looking forward to my return to this part of the world. Thanks to the Hyatt Regency for hosting us on this trip!
