From the catwalks of New York, Paris, Milan, and London, to the runways of Toronto. The Canadian capital has just celebrated yet another successful season of World MasterCard Fashion Week.
Throughout my career I've been lucky enough to experience every major fashion week around the globe. If you had of asked me one year ago, mid Haute Couture week in Paris, if I would still be working in fashion one year from then, I would have laughed, and told you that I'd much rather be on a beach in Bali. But here's the thing about the fashion industry, no matter how much you may dislike it at times, and complain about it, you still feel an attachment, and a passion. I took a well deserved career break earlier this year, a few months in India, a summer in Los Angeles, and a real vacation in Paris - without the drama at Dior or the chaos at Chanel. All those months of vacation made me feel as if something were missing in my life and made me eager to jump back into the industry again...
My love for fashion recently brought me to Toronto, it's a fresh and exciting new adventure for me. I've been spending a lot of time educating myself on Canadian based designers and fashion brands since I arrived. There's a few brands that I've been feeling quite the attachment to lately, one in particular is LINE Knitwear.
LINE is the brainchild of the globally experienced and extremely talented design duo, John Muscat and Jennifer Wells. The pair joined forces 15 years ago to create what is now one of Canada's most celebrated and established brands. Under the creative direction of PYA Importer's Vice President Hinda Assaraf, Line is rapidly growing from one success to the next. Pieces from the collections are often seen gracing the pages of our favourite glossy magazines, including InStyle, Teen Vogue and Nylon.
In all my years in the fashion industry, I have never seen a team so devoted to their label. Everything from design, to production, to sales, and eventually to the shop floor, is a conscious decision. Standards are extremely high for each collection, LINE Knitwear cuts no corners, and each new collection is better than the last. The creative team are constantly pushing the boundaries of design while still meeting the needs of their clientele. Carefully constructed knits, creamy cashmeres, and luxurious angora wools are visible in every collection.
A celebrity following to be proud of, pieces from the collections have been seen on some of Hollywood's leading ladies including Kate Hudson, Lana Del Rey, and Taylor Swift.
LINE is overseen by one of Canada's leading fashion companies, PYA Importer, founded by Patrick Assaraf. You may have heard of PYA before, and maybe you even attended one of their famous sample sales. The scene at a PYA sample sale is summed up in the images below...
The company are fast approaching their next sale, with major discounts on leading brands including Ted Baker London, Patrick Assaraf, John & Jenn, and of course, LINE Knitwear. They will be continuing their partnership with Save Our Scruff, a Toronto based dog rehoming charity.
Attention all dog owners, if you post a picture of you with your dog and use the #PYAlovespups hashtag, an extra dollar will be donated to Save Our Scruff... So what are you waiting for?
